Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA), Portugal

The National Health Institute Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA) develops its activity as National Health Observatory, State Laboratory of the health sector and National Reference Laboratory for health. The main mission of INSA is to contribute to gains in public health through research and development on health sciences and biomedicine, epidemiological and health services studies and training programs in several domains, including health promotion and chronic disease prevention, providing the Ministry of Health with data for evidence-based decisions on national health policy.

The Department of Health Promotion and Prevention of Non-Communicable Disease at INSA develops research and observational studies to identify, characterize and monitor health determinants and risk factors for chronic diseases of large public health impact, including Autism Spectrum Disorder; develops R&D projects aiming at understanding disease etiology and biological mechanisms, and translating knowledge into biomedical applications; performs health impact assessment of interventions at multiple levels, including the health, social, and environmental sectors, with a focus on reducing inequalities, promoting healthy life styles and reducing chronic disease prevalence; develops projects aiming at improving citizens health literacy.
