DECLARATION ADOPTED DURING THE INFORMAL MEETING OF THE EU MEMBER STATES’ MINISTERS RESPONSIBLE FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES 14 MARCH 2019, PARIS, FRANCE

On the initiative of Sophie CLUZEL, Secretary of State to the Prime Minister for Persons with Disabilities, and Nathalie LOISEAU, Minister for European Affairs, ten Ministers and Secretaries of State for persons with disabilities and representatives from all Member States were met the past Mar, 14th, at the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. This unprecedented meeting was organized in cooperation with the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the European Commission.

Participants were able to sign a declaration reaffirming their commitment to further support the autonomy of the 80 million people with disabilities across the Union. The signatories reaffirmed their commitment to continue breaking down the barriers that people with disabilities face in their daily lives to enable them to access all their rights, to work, to education, to health and social protection, to participate fully in the life of the city. In addition, they stressed that, in coherence with the European Pillar of Social Rights, the specificities needed to take into account persons with disabilities should be further integrated into the future strategic framework of the European Union.

ASDEU’s results were shown by Manuel Posada, who asked for the implementation of European Strategy for the Autism Spectrum Disorders

THE TRAINING

PACT (Pre-school Autism Communication Therapy) is the first and world leading autism intervention tested to show sustained reduction in autism symptoms (Pickles et al. 2016) and improving communication initiation skills in the long-term.

  • The training takes place over 2 full days and will be held in English.
  • It involves a presentation on the theoretical background and stages of the PACT manual.
  • Training includes DVD observation and rating adult and child communication at different stages of the programme.
  • Trainees practice measuring the communication goals and criteria for each stage, setting communication targets and methods of using video feedback.

How does it work?

  • Through structured video-feedback and coaching techniques, therapists help caregivers to recognise and respond to their autistic child’s altered communication.
  • PACT therapists empower parents with key skills proven to lead to better child social communication outcomes.
  • Caregivers receive 1 ½ – 2-hour sessions alternate weeks for 6 months) with take home written goals for daily practice.

Who is it for?
Professionals (Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Speech and Language Therapists, specialist teachers) who are trained and experienced in the social communication needs of children with autism of 2-10 years of age.

What will I get?
Upon completion of the course, delegates will be equipped to administer PACT with practice cases.

Post Course Fidelity Rating is required to gain full accreditation in PACT for clinical or research practice. At the extra cost of CHF 930, the course provides clinical supervision for 2 practice cases submitted by trainees

NEW ASDEU ON-LINE SURVEYS ONGOING

The ASDEU programme has recently launched several on-line surveys. We welcome contributions from everyone with an interest in autism.

“Federación Autismo Madrid” hands one if its Annual Awards to ASDEU Project

Within the “World Autism Awareness Day” celebration in Spain, on the 2nd of April,  the “Federación Autismo Madrid” gave one of its nine Annual Awards to ASDEU Project. The project coordinador, Dr. Manuel Posada, was the selected person to collect the award.

During the event, Dr. Posada appreciated the effort all the consortium members are making in all work packages of this big project.

Translational neurodevelopmental perspectives on autism spectrum disorders

03 – 10 October 2015

This one-week workshop is being run by EU-AIMS in partnership with the Neuroscience School of Advanced Studies (NSAS).

The workshop will take place in Bressanone, Suedtirol (South Tyrol) in Italy.

The course format will be 1-2 faculty discussing one cutting-edge topic in the field for one entire day. The aim is to stimulate and foster cross-disciplinary discussions and ideas.

On 29 September, Autism Europe, one of the ASDEU programme partners, hosted a conference, Moving forward for the adoption of a European Strategy for Autism in Europe, following on from the Parliament’s adoption of a Written Declaration on autism, co-drafted by Autism-Europe.
